about
Brighton-based rock outfit, Demure, have come crashing through with their new intergalactic-sounding single, ‘City of Dreams’. Radioing through to planet Earth, the song begins with a futuristic effect that murmurs throughout, mustering up an almost science-fiction feel to the song. The fast-paced riff, coming from guitarists Jeremy Purllant and Simone Iaria, is sure to set heads bobbing away when presented to a live audience; with a classic rock tone to it, the riff soars through the atmosphere and charges up with roaring energy within whoever’s ears it falls upon.
Lead-singer Josh Clarke comes into his element on this track. He is evidently comfortable with delivering powerful, pack-a-punch, rock vocals not too dissimilar to the likes of Sting, or even Michael Hutchence, as his clean yet potent voice lifts this track to its full potential.
A mind-warping solo comes in the middle of the song courtesy of Purllant, as the band eases off the pace and slow things down almost to a halt – this song isn’t just about catchy melodies, anthemic choruses, and grooving basslines (coming from bassist Tomos Vaughn-Streater), as this spacey breakdown section wouldn’t seem out of place on Dark Side of the Moon due to its tranquilising nature.
Demure demonstrate their dynamic character here, exhibiting their ability to melt your face with hundred-miles-per-hour guitar riffs, whilst also being able to catapult you into a deep, dreamy abyss – all within four minutes of a singular song.
Finishing how it started, the riff cascades back into the song in an unapologetic fashion: harsh, abrasive, and vigorous – certainly bringing the dreamy solo to an abrupt end. A reprise of the chorus brings the song to a euphoric conclusion, allowing one to envision the chaotic carnage which would be endured were this to be played to a crowd of even a few hundred.
City of Dreams is a culmination and celebration of all things good about classic rock; it’s a tip of the hat to the greats that have come before Demure’s time, yet upon it, they place a futuristic twist as they look towards what lies ahead of them.'
lyrics
Sun's asleep in the city
Watching from the shore
A man here holds his head in hands
Sitting on the stone
He came here so long ago
In search for a better life
He came here so long ago
To the city of his dreams
He came here in search of a fairy tale
Came here alone and he meant so well
Came to this place to the city of his dreams
Look on his face
It's not what it seems

Forged in Brighton but hailing from across the continent; these young musicians formed Demure with the intent on breathing
new fire and life into their backgrounds of rock guitar music. Yet, the boys have intently studied to expand upon tired tropes of traditional sounds from their instruments, and ultimately aim to create powerful, jaw-dropping songs with alternative stylistic flairs....more
